Student Transition Program
At DoDEA Pacific, military-connected children are at the heart of all we do. We recognize our military children move three times more often than their civilian peers, with many students attending six to nine different schools during their K-12 years. We also know frequent moves may cause stress and anxiety, adversely impacting students.
DoDEA Pacific’s Student Transition Program is designed to assist newly arriving elementary, middle and high school students with finding community within their new school.
Each Student Transition Program is served by a Program Coordinator and Student Innovators.
The Kadena Elementary Student Innovators is a Leadership Club for Grades 3-5. The club is designed to enhance the leadership skills of our third through fifth grade students, implement grade level, school and community goals, support the day-to-day activities at KES, represent KES during school-wide events, act as liaisons between the school and new students/families/guests, and represent KES in the role of ambassadors. The Student Innovators partners with various organizations within the school and local community. Some community outreach includes supporting assisting with the Special Olympics and raising items (non-perishable, gently used clothing, personal care items, toys, etc.) for OkiHelp, orphanages, and the , AmeriAsian School Okinawa. The Student Innovators are also committed to maintaining the school’s book vending machine and the desire of increasing literacy in the school by putting a book in every child’s hand.
